"Tax day" or should we say "stress day"
Our guests report that one of the main reasons for visiting the spa is to de-stress. During these uncertain economic times guests are making appointments to the spa in order to take a break from the crazy world, to take time out for themselves, to take care of their mental, physical and emotional health and to get back to health & wellness. This is the time to take care of yourself and your loved ones. Whether you come in for a 90-minute massage or for a quick manicure, it is time well spent. When you visit Simply Your Spa we hope that regardless of which treatment you choose...a long one or a short one, that you will sit back, drink some hot tea and relax. Let the crazy world outside our doors keep going while you take a much needed break and enjoy some peace and serenity. Let us help you de-stress even if for only a few minutes. You will be glad you did.
Don't foget to sign up for our email newsletters. We will be sending out a 'tax day' special. We are also on Twitter. Sign up to follow us at www.twitter.com/simplyyourspa

Oh My Aching Back
Low back pain is something that almost everyone has to deal with at some time or another. It’s sometimes a structural issue, meaning that there is a misalignment of the spine that causes a pinched nerve, or it may be a problem with a slipped or ruptured disc. In these situations, a trip to the doctor or chiropractor may be in order, however massage can help by loosening the muscles that are pulling your spine out of place and putting stress on the problem area.
Many forms of back pain are not structural, but are due to postural distortion. For example, if when laying flat on your back you are experiencing low back pain, you may have a tight Eleo Psoas muscle. Maybe you have tight ham strings and abdominal muscles that are tilting your pelvis and causing low back and hip pain. The point is, there are many ways that our back can be stressed, and a good massage therapist can work with you to release the tension in the offending muscles. The right therapist will analyze your posture to determine the cause of your pain and recommend a treatment plan that will include massage, stretching, icing and heat therapy or possibly suggest a visit to a medical professional.
I like to tell people that there is no way to lose with massage. Even if your condition needs more than a massage, you will still leave the massage relaxed and refreshed. So don’t just complain about your aching back, come get a massage. What do you have to loose except the pain?

Pain in the neck
As a massage therapist the most common thing people say to me is "I have this pain right here in my neck and shoulders, it’s where I carry my tension". Almost every client says this, regardless of why they came to get a massage. The reason for this is that we all have this issue at one time or another, we all spend too much time on the computer, drive cars, sleep on our sides, or do countless other activities that keep our shoulder’s rolled forward. This constant rolling forward of the shoulders is the culprit, that causes our "pain in the neck".
The co-conspirator with rolled in shoulders in this type of pain, is head forward posture. When the head and the shoulders are forward, we have pain between the shoulder blades, up the neck, at the base of the skull, and often radiating pain to the temples.
So, you may ask, what are you going to do to make me feel better? Oddly enough, we are going to massage the front of your neck and your chest. In the massage field we have a saying, "don’t chase the Pain". Our instinct is to rub where we hurt, and we will do that, but what our body needs, is to be rubbed opposite of where we hurt. Shortening of our anterior, or front side neck muscles, and shorting of our pectoral, or chest muscles, is what stretches the back of our shoulders and neck. So, in order to relieve your pain, we need to massage the front to allow the back to go back to its natural position, and thus relieving the pain.
So if you want to get rid or your "pain in the neck" come get a massage! We have a great staff of massage therapist trained to analyze your posture and pain patterns, to determine the best massage treatment to help you.
Stay tuned for more info on how massage can reduce stress and relieve pain.
